HISTORY OF THE MISSION

The High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Kigali, Rwanda, was established in June 2012, during the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

Before that, Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with Rwanda were overseen by the Nigerian High Commission in the Republic of Uganda. 

Past Heads of Mission at the High Commission:

  1. Ambassador Peter Ogidi-Oke (June 2012 – August 2015).
  2. Ambassador Adamu Onoze Shuaibu (October 2017 – October 2020).
  3. Ambassador Aishatu Aliyu Musa (July 2021 – September 2022).
  4. Ambassador Suleiman Sani (October 2022 – November 2023)

The current Acting High Commissioner is Ambassador Ibrahim Zanna, who assumed duty on 29th December 2024.

Since its establishment, the Nigerian High Commission in Rwanda has been involved in various activities aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. These include facilitating trade and investment opportunities, promoting cultural exchanges, and enhancing cooperation in areas like security and education.
