Mr. Lawrence Obeya is a seasoned career diplomat with over two decades of experience in the Nigerian Foreign Service. He currently serves as the Minister at the Nigeria High Commission in Kigali, Rwanda, a role he assumed in April 2025.
He joined the Foreign Service in December 1999 and has acquired extensive diplomatic experience through postings across Africa and Latin America, contributing to Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements in diverse political and strategic environments.
He served at the Nigerian Mission in Zambia from 2007 to 2010, followed by a posting to Brazil from 2014 to 2017, where he was involved in strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic and cultural relations. He later served in Chad from 2020 to 2023, a posting that further deepened his experience in regional security, political affairs and cross-border cooperation.
He holds a Master’s degree in Strategy and Security Studies and a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Geology.
